Mr. Burton has been involved in more than 143 business transfers ranging in value from half a million dollars to $40 million. In addition, Mr. Burton has been involved in the valuation of several hundred businesses ranging in size from $20,000 to $38 million.
Prior to joining BBRS Strategic Advisors LLC, Mr. Burton spent a number of years as head of legal and business development for a national valuation firm. In addition, he has served as in house counsel to several business brokerages and merger and acquisition firms. Before entering the industry, Mr. Burton practiced law in the private sector focusing on the practice areas of corporate and business transactions and business succession. He primarily represented companies ranging from small businesses to mid-market sized firms. Mr. Burton’s career has also included his heading up operations for a consulting firm, serving as an editor and publisher for the Daily Journal Corporation and acting as Vice President of Business Development and Marketing for a legal software firm. Mr. Burton is a board member of the Society of Business Analysts and speaks nationwide on proper procedures regarding the business transfer process, business succession strategies, business valuation and avoidance of liability in merger and acquisitions for privately held firms.
Mr. Burton has also been involved in numerous philanthropic and community activities including acting as In-House Counsel for the Minneapolis Sexual Violence Center and acting as Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee for the Burnsville Chamber of Commerce. He is also currently active in the Alliance of Merger and Acquisition Advisors and is on the executive committee for his ProVisors chapter.
Mr. Burton was born and raised in the West Los Angeles area. He received his Bachelor's degree in history. Thereafter he obtained his law degree from Whittier College School of Law. Mr. Burton is a licensed attorney and certified as a Senior Business Appraiser and a Machine and Equipment Analyst. He recently was awarded his certification as a Merger and Acquisition Advisor from Loyola University of Chicago.
